World 01 · Replace

Replace the paycheck.

For 30 or 40 years, money showed up every couple of weeks. Retirement changes that overnight.

The first job of the plan is figuring out where your next paycheck comes from.

What it covers

How Replace is built.

The job

Know what shows up each month

You know how much is coming in, where it's coming from, and when it hits your account.

The sources

Build your retirement paycheck

Social Security, pensions, investments, and other income all have a role. We figure out how they work together and when to use each one.

The test

What happens in a bad market?

Retirement doesn't always start in a good market. We want to know what happens to your income when it doesn't.

Inside this World

The planning that lives in Replace.

This is where we figure out how all the different pieces of your retirement income work together.

Social Security

When should you take it? When should your spouse? Claiming earlier gives you income sooner. Waiting can mean a larger check. We look at the rest of your plan before deciding.

Your pension

If you have a pension, you may have decisions you'll only get to make once. Monthly income or a lump sum. Survivor benefits or a larger payment today. We work through those decisions before you have to make them.

Annuity income

Sometimes guaranteed income makes sense. Sometimes it doesn't. We look at what income you already have, what still needs to be covered, and whether an annuity actually improves the plan.

Your income floor

Start with what it costs to live your life. Then figure out how much of that is already covered by Social Security, pensions, or other reliable income. That tells us what your investments still need to provide.

Where the money comes from

A dollar from your IRA isn't the same as a dollar from your Roth or brokerage account. We decide where your spending money should come from each year with taxes and the years ahead in mind.

Required distributions

Eventually, the IRS starts telling you how much has to come out of certain retirement accounts. We plan for that years before it happens, when you still have more options.

The thinking

How we think about it.

The paycheck changes everything

For most of your life, the paycheck told you what you could spend. When it stops, that certainty goes with it. Replacing it gives the rest of the plan something to build around.

What strong looks like

You know what's coming in each month, where it's coming from, and what part of your life it covers. You don't have to decide from scratch every time you need money.
